Lesson Plan

Objectives:

  1. Students will watch and quickly discuss a video on why people are connected to cars.

  2. Students will understand the definition of what a modified car is.

  3. Students will understand and analyze what makes up a modified car.

  4. Students will understand what is legal and illegal to modify.

  5. Students will discuss if they think they modify cars.

  6. Students will discuss how modified cars impact their lives.


Hook/ Opening

  • Video of what is it about cars? (3 min)


Lesson:

  1. Identifying what a modified car means to individuals, Hook (4 min)

    1. Show portion of video “Why do you like cars?” 

    2. Discuss with the class what they think the attraction to cars is

    3. Finish the second min of the video

    4. Discuss more about how cars give freedom to drivers both to be able to drive anywhere or use it as a blank canvas to build.


  1. Define what a modified car is. (5 min)

    1. Show on-screen a photo of before and after my Camaro (with grandfather)

    2. “The definition of a car modification is a change made to a vehicle so that it differs from the manufacturer's original factory specification” (“Car Modifications”).

    3. Talk through what things can be modified on cars

      1. The suspension (ride height and performance)

      2. Lights

      3. Stereo

      4. wheels/tires

      5. Exhaust

      6. Engine


  1. Analyze what parts are illegal and why (5 min)

    1. EPA’s effects and laws briefly, Clean air act

    2. Lights

    3. Suspension

    4. Noise volume/ exhaust

    5. Engine tuning


  1. Discussion on who modifies cars. (3 min)

    1. Now we know what modifying a car is “Do you guys think you modify your cars?” 

    2. And then let the discussion run while touching base on modifying a car doesn't have to be a restoration of race car conversation but just to dd your personality to your ride. 


  1. How do modified cars impact their lives? (4 min)

    1. Even if people are not car-savvy themselves, extraordinary cars still have impacts specifically in movies, ask questions and openly discuss how movies would turn out if modifying cars wasn't a part of it. 

      1. Fast and the Furious

      2. Mad max fury road

      3. Transformers

      4. Nascar

      5. Need for speed

      6. Cars 1,2,3

      7. Pimp my ride

    2. Show pictures of modified cars famous in movies
